What is S.O.S?

In July 2007, state law presented student stores that sell food items, with a potentially devastating challenge. House Bill 2650 (HB 2650) established firm nutritional standards for food products sold within public schools in hope of reversing the obesity epidemic.

The problem that high schools are analyzing is the effect of Oregon’s new nutritional laws on student stores. All food must be within the standard relating to portion size, calories, sugar and fat content. Student stores have to adjust to these regulations by changing the stores product mix. Store management must replace unapproved food with healthy alternatives.

We want to create a blog for store managers and advisors to exchange product ideas, success strategies and overall support. The purpose of this blog is to reverse the student store decline initiated by the legislation of House Bill 2650.
